TIME TO STOP THE MADNESS!!!
My name is "The Truth" and today's topic: Production Companies that charge fees, this includes Creative Entertainment & Media Inc. (CEM), and every other accredited company or professional working with independents.
The TV and film industry has changed!
Writers, Independents, Bloggers and anyone else listening,
it’s time to grow up and stop crying about how people don’t want to work on
your project because you don't want to pay them for their experience, time and
talent! Basically you want a professional to stop working on their
projects or those of their clients, to work on yours and not be paid for doing
so. Those days are over!
Here's
the truth!
First: Yes, I did work for CEM a few years
ago. Yes, I am a producer for a major studio, no I will not mention the name, because
this is my personal blog and I’m sure writers would love to have a studio to
bitch at, and no CEM is not one of our subsidiaries.
Now
for some more truth!
In today’s industry there’s an overwhelming amount of
scripts available that need developing, produced, licensed or funded, but a
limited number of companies willing to assist independents with that process.
This brings me to online comments about Creative
Entertainment & Media Inc and other professionals that provide services for
a fee.
The networks and studios no longer take unsolicited
scripts. They want projects to meet their criteria for review and evaluation. This
is why companies like CEM, that know how to meet that criteria and have
the access to submit your project; are a viable option to consider.
Also, there is
no such thing as "production companies are not supposed to charge fees to work
on your project" because you as the writer have done your job by writing
the script.
Are you kidding me?!
We get scripts every hour, every day of every week and
they're all block busters or hit shows, written by accredited writers with
successful box office and TV results.
In today's industry if Independents want to compete, they must
have the same support and resources backing them as other accredited writers.
That’s why I found it most interesting that a company like CEM that is respected and honored by the
industry with proof of their accomplishments and offers their experience , the
reputation of an Emmy winner, access to network and studio execs but is spoken
about online by the few uninformed…and people believe them!
In reading the comments, it became apparent drinking the
Kool-aid was a requirement. One person would say "they're not supposed to
charge for anything, sounds like a scam to me." That's all it took for 20
others to start saying "yeah, I think so too." These people were not
complaining CEM was hired by them and did not deliver, instead they are
complaining CEM is a production company and should not be charging them!
Really? I wonder who
wrote that into law?!
Also does anyone find it interesting; none of the websites
are sanctioned by the industry? If they were they would have to have their
information confirmed by an independent 3rd party. This is to
prevent people from posting anything without proof. Therefore it’s not
surprising that none of the comments are from networks, studios or industry
executives.
Keep in mind, Creative Entertainment & Media Inc. and
other industry professionals, are not scams because they charge a fee for
services; even networks and studios outsource services.
Again, the industry has changed and the rules have
changed. If you have a project, use the resource that can best help you get it
where you want it to go.
